Rob PriceAngela BoleThe Independent Book Publishers Association envisions a world where every independent publisher has the tools and knowledge needed to professionally engage in all aspects of the publishing industry. Over three days in Austin, Texas, beginning April 5, IBPA’s Publishing University packs in lessons from data standards and marketing strategies to audiobooks and Amazon.

PubU keynote speaker Daniel Lerner, is the instructor for “The Science of Happiness,” one the most popular classes in the New York University course catalog. He will tell IBPA members and conference attendees why they should push past the pursuit of achievement and get closer to the pursuit of happiness.

“All of us in the publishing industry have this amazing passion for publishing, and if you can stay on the harmonious side of that, you can be very successful,” explains Angela Bole, IBPA chief executive officer. “But if it becomes obsessive, it becomes difficult to get your job done and to do it well. We want to see people strike a nice balance.”

“I think they’re both related, actually. If you are pursuing happiness then you’re enjoying what you do and you’ll do a better job, which will lead to more financial success,” agrees Rob Price, IBPA board chairman and the President of Gatekeeper Press. ”As publishers, we need to focus on what makes the experience enjoyable.”
