The next mega-memoir is very possibly “The Moment of Lift” by Melinda Gates, coming in April 2019

Andrew AlbaneseSince its publication in November 2018, Michelle Obama’s memoir Becoming has led the nonfiction bestseller lists. Total US sales for the title are now approaching four million copies, according to Andrew AlbanesePublishers Weekly senior writer. The next mega-memoir, he notes, is very possibly The Moment of Lift by Melinda Gates, coming in April 2019 from Pan Macmillan.

In Seattle for the recent American Library Association Midwinter Meeting, Gates delivered the opening keynote. Albanese tells CCC’s Chris Kenneally that her focus was her personal transformation into a gender equality advocate.

“The demand for gender equality is growing louder, and it is coming from all over the world, Gates told attendees,” Albanese reports. In the U.S., women are marching, running for office, breaking through glass ceilings. Around the world, governments are starting to recognize that investing in women and girls has to be a priority, But, progress is not inevitable, she stressed. If we want to see change, everyone needs to recognize the power they have, and needs to step up.”

Every Friday, CCC’s “Beyond the Book” speaks with the editors and reporters of “Publishers Weekly” for an early look at the news that publishers, editors, authors, agents and librarians will be talking about when they return to work on Monday.
